In one seem-perfectly-normal morning, your baby wakes up and starts slapping and kicking around. Then in around 5 minutes later, if he receives no attention, ie., nipple from you, he will start to scream at the top of his lungs until you shove your nipple to his mouth to stop him.

Normally it works well. But today you notice something odd.

He doesn’t seem to completely relax. Even after getting milk drunk, he still gives you the freaking adorable cute puppy face and watery eyes.

So you are a little concerned. Not knowing for sure what the world is going on.

You change him. Wash his face, strip his butt, and open his crack to wash it.

And that’s when you figure out the reason for his begging mom-there-is-something-odd-with-me face.

His ass is pink. I mean, like seriously pink. Not the cute pinkish looking color you often see when you kiss his ass (literally) too much.

No, the scary pinkish thing that clenches your belly and makes you feel sorry for being such a shitty mom.

Yeap, you know what it is. Diaper rash. The friend that comes and goes and then comes back again without any invitation, and then again and again and again.

Ok so diaper rash is not a fun story, not for your baby, not for you and certainly not for the ass.

So while you don't have to change your diet to change the structure or texture or whatever the heck your milk consists of, you should change something that is next to your baby's ass like the diaper or the cream.

For now, let's focus on the first one and find the best diapers to prevent diaper rash.

First off, why does your pain-in-the-ass little vampire have a diaper rash? What causes diaper rash?

According to Mayo Clinic, here are the few most common reasons:

Pee-pee and poo-poo irritate his little tushie.

You know how often your poop-generating-machine works. It’s like he poos, then you change him, and he poos again while you are changing him. Yeap, that’s how often.

And with that crazy frequency together with his super fragile and sensitive skin, his tushie is gonna get it.

Friction rash

If his diaper is not a good fit, too tight or too loose, it can rub against his skin, causing a rash.

Irritation from wipes, detergent, fabric softener, etc.

Everything that touches your baby’s little booty can irritate his skin if it contains any chemicals. If it is hard to narrow down exactly which product gives him the rash, stop all at once and try one by one product.

Sensitive skin

Babies with skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis or seborrheic dermatitis (eczema), may be more likely to develop diaper rash.

Infection and antibiotics

The diaper area is warm and moist, making a perfect condition for bacteria and yeast. These things can cause infection, leading to the rash.

Once your baby has an infection, he will have to take antibiotics. Antibiotics kill bacteria, including the good ones. Antibiotic use often gives babies diarrhea, causing the rash.

Cloth or disposable diapers: is cloth diaper the best diapers to prevent diaper rash?

Oh damn, I’m going to receive a whole bunch of disagreement if I choose one over the other.

So, here it goes.

Yes and no.

You’ve known the reasons that cause diaper rash. So while cloth diapers have an outstanding feature, is that they allow air to ventilate into your bundle-of-poop-and-pee’s ass to keep rash at bay.

However, cloth diapers expose to detergent, too much or not enough detergent can also irritate the skin. What’s more, as cloth diapering is very comfortable, sometimes your baby won’t cry or let you know when it is soiled. If you don’t check it often, your baby can end up using a dirty diaper for a long time, causing the rash.

Top 3 best diapers to prevent diaper rash

ALVABABY Baby Cloth Diapers

I really do like the ALVABABY cloth diapers.

No, I’m an adult, I don’t wear diapers anymore (I don’t even need to use a tampon because I have a menstrual cup) but I love the way it is designed.

The ALVABABY diaper consists of a waterproof and washable outer layer and a reusable insert layer inside. This way, it can soak the liquid while channeling it away from your baby’s skin.

It has a lot of snaps so you can adjust the size to secure a snug fit, even when your baby is very young until when he grows up more. So it is another plus for mama’s wallet. It is wallet-friendly.

What we like

  • Snap fasteners to help reduce diaper accidents.
  • Wallet-friendly.
  • Come in many different colors.
  • Durable, can use for small babies until they get big.

What we don't like

  • Sometimes it still leaks even when you put the right snap.

Pampers Swaddlers Diapers: best disposable diapers for diaper rash

Although they are available for a wide range of ages, it feels like these Pamper diapers are specially made for newborns. This line is the cushiest and includes a wetness indicator as well as a newborn design that makes space for the umbilical cord. They have an air-channel that allows air to reach the baby's skin, helping to keep them dry and comfortable.

They’re well-priced and seem to work well for all different shapes and sizes of babies.

What we like

  • Air channel, keeping butt dry
  • Wetness detector
  • My favorite brand to use for the long night.

What we don't like

  • Sometimes my son still pees through the diapers, wetting himself (maybe it is due to his have-to-pee penis, but whatever).

Bambo Nature Eco Friendly Baby Diapers Classic

For babies with extremely sensitive asses, I meant, skins, this product can help. These diapers are made with a host of plant-based materials, minimizing the possibility of any reactions against synthetic materials.

The inside liner is designed to draw liquid away from your child’s body — pulling moisture from the skin, keeping the ass dry. While this diaper is great for sensitive skin, they are really pricey. You get what you pay for, I guess.

What we like

  • Great materials, minimizing diaper rash risk,

What we don't like

  • Really pricey.

Final thought

All the diapers mentioned above can reduce the risk of diaper rash, but they cannot eliminate it all.

While there is no warranty solution for it, do what works for you

Change your method and products until you find the best diapers to prevent diaper rash. If you are using disposable diapers, try cloth diapers. If cloth diapering gives you headache and stress, switch to disposable diapers. There is really no one-size-fit-all thing around here.
